In October, people across California celebrated #StemCellMonth, highlighting all the amazing progress made by stem cell research in the last year.
But more than just the great leaps forward in science, we celebrated the lives we can change. A few of patient activists created this short video to share with you what hopes and dreams they have for stem cell research. Watch the video now:
Puts a tear in your eye, right?
All these patient advocates are speaking up as part of an organization called Americans for Cures. Founded as a part of Proposition 71, Americans for Cures reports back to the public on the critical medical and scientific progress that California’s stem cell program has catalyzed and helped fund. We make the science of stem cells accessible to everyone, and we educate Californians on the potential of this life-saving research.
And we do this for all the patients, and all the families, who currently suffer from the burden of chronic disease and injury.
We’re fighting for friends and loved ones who suffer from Type 1 Diabetes, Huntington’s, Sickle Cell Disease, and so many other chronic diseases. We’re fighting for people with spinal cord injuries and heart failure. We’re fighting to reduce a friend’s daily suffering, to give a longer life for an elderly parent, to cure a sick child.
Now, we need your help spreading the word about the great work being done by California’s stem cell researchers and clinicians. Already, we have dozens of patient ambassadors—patients, educators, activists, and loved ones—making their voice heard in communities across California. You can join them!
Stem cell research is our generation’s antibiotics, our time’s polio vaccine. It is a medical revolution happening right now—and we must continue to support this movement.
About Americans for Cures
Americans for Cures is the non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)3 organization legacy and/or successor organization to Californians for Stem Cell Research and Cures, the 501(c)4 organization behind 2004’s Proposition 71: the California Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative. The mission of Americans for Cures is to advocate for stem cell research and therapy development, entirely with the aim to improve the lives of patients and their families suffering chronic disease and injury.
